I should have been on the list too because by that time I'd built a 
couple of low power oscillators without magnetic quenching - used carbon 
and copper electrodes operating in liquit kerosene.  Still have the arc 
setup but have forgotten some of the tank circuit details.  Ran about a 
half amp from a 115 VDC source with series current limiting.  I was able 
to get a couple of amps circulating current in the tank circuit at 300 
kHz but with no significant power output when I tried to couple to the 
tank coil.  The thing oscillated as high a 2 MHz with a 'bubbly note' 
which was copyable in a receiver with BFO on.

   Construction of a source with 1 kW output would be a fairly big deal 
- need magnetic quenching for sure.  It could be done and I'm sure it 
would work.   I think Dave Quinlan is the guy with whom I had some 
correspondence and, at least at that time, there were details of 
home-built arc oscillators available.  I think I have a copy of an early 
Electrical Experimenter with some details.  Sure wish someone could get 
the ambition!
