I've seen first hand the effects of sunlight on PVC pipe. It becomes incredibly brittle. I've experienced spark-gap yellowing, though not to the extent of it becoming brittle, but I have no doubt it happens.

However, I have also found that if this yellowish-brown discoloring goes unchecked for long enough, it will eventually lose its mechanical as well as its dielectric integrity. I ended up wrapping aluminum duct tape around the 2 1/2” PVC pipe pieces that I use as structural pillars to support the primary/secondary coil base above the bottom platform base that houses the capacitors and RSG assembly due to the UV from the RSG causing the aforementioned deterioration of the surface of the PVC pillars.
