Re: [TCML] TC Application - Neighbors
I run big TC's outdoors in a semirural area. Here's what I do in regard to
neighbors. Actually, I only have 4 neighbors within 100 m and they are on
the side shielded by the house.
Tell them what you are doing and keep them onside and part of the action. I
send flyers around inviting them to my open day with pictures and a link to
the website. That way they know what is happening and been invited to
attend the "noisy party" even if they have no interest in it.
If you plan a big testing night then warn them and tell them when it will
finish. Expect and encourage onlookers and plan for a safety
barrier/rope/danger tape.
Suggest they can pop around anytime they hear it running for a demo.
Be aware it may interfere with TV so maybe running it on the night of the
big game ain't so smart.
Stick to a time limit perhaps 2 hours after darkness.
An anecdote. One of my TV shoots ran to 2am with prolonged TC runs and re
takes. We had warned the closest neighbors but felt bad about it. The next
day my wife went next door to apologize and give chocolates only to find the
neighbors were away that night and knew nothing about it. They got the
chocolates anyway.
Having said all that. I wouldn't run a TC in an apartment or in a busy
street with many close neighbors. Just like it would be inappropriate to run
pulsejet engines etc. Some people are trying to get kids to sleep or work
shifts so what works for you might still not work for them.

I need a few pointers from the experienced home coilers. What is the
proper
etiquette for introducing a TC to neighbors? .....
Thanks for any advise.
