Whether or not your capacitor is too large depends entirely on what size the other parts of your coil are. Resonant energy transfer?occurs when 

Lpri x Cpri = Lsec x Csec. To determine this, we need to know the physical dimensions of both coils and the size and position of the top load. 

1) Assuming your primary is a flat spiral, what are the inside and outside diameters, and number of turns? Is it copper or other metal?

2) Assuming your secondary is a standard cylindrical shape, what is the diameter of the form, length of winding, gauge of wire, number of turns?

3) What is the distance from the plane of the primary to the bottom turn of the secondary?

4) What is the shape of the topload? What is the distance from the top turn of the secondary to the bottom of the topload?

5) If topload is a toroid, what are the major and minor diameters?



Accurate measurement of these values are necessary to determine if you are even close to resonance, then you can start making tuning adjustments. Without this information, no one can answer your question.

Hi coilers,

I have tuned my tesla coil months and months,
However, it don't give any open air discharge and corona.
After I have tried my effort on tuning the secondary coil and primary 
inductance,
I am thinking if too much capacitance would be the cause?

Here's the case,
I am using a 7.5kV 30mA 50Hz Neon transformer,
as stated by Teslamap,
the capacitor should resonant at 12.7nF, LTR static 20.6nF.
However my capacitor rated at 15kVDC 22nF.
Would this greatly effect my coil and don't let it give out streamers?
