Will spray varnish wok just as well? So far, I've emptied a whole can of
acrylic spray varnish on the repair.

Hi John,
As long as you didn't break any wires or cause them to overlap, you should
be able to easily repair the damage. Carefully brush the winding with a
clean paintbrush in the same direction as the winding to remove any copper
particles that may be lodged between adjacent wires. Then carefully coat the
damaged region with some corona dope or a couple of coatings of clear
polyurethane varnish. Your winding should be as good as new!

some
bare wire where the enamel was scraped off. What should I do? I'm pretty
concerned.
