"I" would opt for the oil as that's what x-ray tranny diodes
are designed to run in. I'd fear that a solid dielectric could
flashover and then carbonize around the diodes. Oil is a bit
more forgiving in a flashover than a solid. BTW, non-organic
petroleum based oils won't get rancid.
