Hey,
If youre like me, you can get 2000+VA for free:)) If there are any local
sign shops, ask for the dead transformers. And ask if they will let you
have as many as you want. Then ask to be able to pick them out of the pile.
Look for the FRANCE transformers. These are the easiest to rebuild. My
marge coil is throwing 5 footers from a 2 x 15000v 60ma PSU. When i recieve
my PFC caps, i will consider shunt removal for possibly like a 200ma output
total;) So go around to the local (or not so local in my case) sign shops
and look for some dead or just thrown out NSTs. Also, they last much
longer when unpotted, since there is no tar to arc through. I lucked out
that both of my 15000/60 transformers simply needed the tar removed, then
worked perfectly! But you may need 2 transformers to get 1, since you may
find a shorted or opened secondary. So look for lots of the same
transformers. What magnitude of power are you looking for?? I would think
that 3 beefy NSTs could supply 3.5KVA if rebuilt and de-shunted. The 60ma
units are great! They never heat up, and have over built parts for
everything, since they are made to run for a very long time. Of course they
will overheat if you take out too many sunts. You can seriously do this all
for free. I used the original mica for insulation, and i removed the tar
with a screwdriver to chip it away. If you want to email me off list with
some specific questions, feel free.
