Sparks "will" come off the wire if the toroid is too high off the secondary
coil as well as corona which sounds to me is what your seeing in the paragraph
below. How high is your toroid (bottom plane of toroid to top most turn of
secondary?). When I run a wire to the toroid, I have never had a need to use
any special technique (at least not yet). I run the wire over the secondary end
cap near the center and up connecting to the toroid on the inner side and
center. If your getting corona (that purple glow), you may need to lower the
toroid a little to remedy the situation.
