Hot lower grounded end of tesla coil issue: Try to repeat your thermal
experiment using the original Tesla Coil design where the primary was
located near the center of a horizontally mounted secondary that had both
"ends" isolated from ground. It was a true balanced resonator with
alternating ends of the dipole. Your thermal measurements should show a room
temperature value at both free ends, while the high current middle will
experience a significant rise in temperature (I^2xR losses). With the ends
experiencing higher voltage peaks, current will be lowest.
