I kind of figured there was machine head fellas here also, makes sense...Yes,
I love having them too!
Yeah, when I first moved here I thought I had plenty of space. Never do to
some extent. Always wishing for more. And very tall ceillings would be nice
for forklifts. But like you say, it really is amazing what you can move
with simple tools and some time, just need to be patient. There is a great
sense of satisfaction when done. Just need to be safe of course as you
know, because it could be dangerous to us. So far I have never had a
problem, but I always think of me first, if a machine is going to tip over
if something goes wrong, save yourself, as you know you are not going to
stop/save the machine. I will admit 99.9% of the time I do it alone. Very
few people that I trust. Most "helpers" want to go too fast, no patience. I
have told them to leave, some say, aw come on! So I leave and just go in
the house and lock the door. Usually leave after a bit, then I go back out
myself. Hate to do this, but no choice sometimes. I know of a couple of
people locally that all most got hurt because of "help" moving machine
tools. Luckily is was just the machines hurt, but after they were glad they
were good of course, it hurts to see what happens to the machine. Face
plants especially on the operator side controls is death for some machines,
not worth trying to fix the severe damage. Funny, one fella still has a
busted up medium size lathe, that every so often when he sees me, been
about 7 years now, he is always trying to sell it to me...
There was a period a while back where garage was just small paths. Could
not do any real work inside anymore. Got realistic and let go multiples of
some machines and some machines just got rid of after I thought about how
much will I ever use it? So I got fairly good working room now. Mostly no
regrets on what I got rid of. Still have plenty though...for the size of
space I have.
Yes, I don't have a drill press either. I have a Bridgeport mill, 3
different size lathes, and a horizontal boring mill, so all kinds of
drilling is covered as you know much better by these, with way, way more
power and precision of course, compared to almost all drill presses. BTW my
horizontal boring mill has as traveling quill that has 27" of travel and
you know you can get more by moving the table. It is actually alot for this
actually small HBM. Have not needed full capacity yet, but nice to know it
is there. Nice and ridged for reaching into resessed and/or awkward areas
for normal drilling also.
I am a little familiar with your SGTC from reading on here in the past,
forgot a lot of details, but I remember it.
