I would add a recommendation to make sure that there is no way a spark can cause a discharge across the drive motor windings, if one is used.  I lost a small induction motor because of a spark to the motor shaft ended up causing an insulation breakdown and a power line arc which destroyed the windings.  While the average current is indeed small the peak current is not.......

If the sparks below the lower terminal are real, because they may be something created by the camera, it's because the lower shield is not grounded, and the electricity is seeking ground through the power supply. It's enough to connect the shield to the power line ground. The average current is small, as this is a VDG and not a Tesla coil, and shall not create interference problems.
