There is definitely a need to air gap or insulate between your MMC caps. I
was also space limited but now regret not providing more spacing.  When I
paralleled my NSTs and added another perfboard of caps to my MMC the spacing
was not enough and at higher input I suffer from arcing in the MMC, so now I
am limited at about 80% power or setting my spark gap shorter.  My next MMC
will take this into account.
