Re: [TCML] Sync gap setup
Im using an 1800rpm 1/13hp Xerox (Reliant Electric) motor for my
propeller gap with a small 2.5 amp variac.
Using the method of finding the ~5 volt rise I settled on 35mfd if
memory serves me correctly.
On eBay I found a store that sold a variety pack of motor run caps,
5mfd - 50mfd.
I think it was 10 caps in all for about 50 bucks.
Very useful for experimenting with different motors and good to have on hand.
I dont think anyones found a way to calculate optimal capacitance for
these applications and values for similar rated motors seem to vary
wildly.
An educated guess followed by trial and error worked best for me, I
figured it out pretty quickly but having a lot of caps to play with
really helped.
