I do think it is definitely worth your while to take the cover off of any ceiling fan that has failed and is being removed from service to see whether or not it can be easily modified to create a toroid the way I did with this one. I have never tried hosting before but I will be glad to take some pictures and put them where everyone can take a look. Can someone recommend a place to put the pictures?

Great discovery! Can you pass along the make and model number of the fan? Then, we can all do our toroid shopping at Home Depot!! The ceiling fan died and I disassembled the motor to see what hadfailed. My son picked up the cover and remarked that it resembled a toroidfrom a Tesla Coil. I agreed and used a rubber hammer to knock the centerportion down flat so that it did make an actual toroid shape. At first, itlooked more like a flying saucer. I now have a nice shiny brass colored steel toroid that is approximately 2.5" by 12". Paul Think Positive
