Hey man,
Not a bad idea, but I wouldnt remove the paint. Those things are made
from
mild steel and would rust within days in any climate.
I would instead grind off any sharp points and protrusions and cover it
in
aluminum tape.
You could even paper mache it first, sand it down, hit it with a can of
clear lacquer, then cover it with aluminum tape.
Or again, leave the paint on it and cover it with copper or aluminum
screen.
If it were aluminum under the paint I would say strip it, but I think the
steel would become problematic as it oxidizes.
The shape should work out just fine for a pseudo-toroidal top load.
I think that its a very good idea. Way to think outside the box man!
I love it when people find a way to work with what they have...

Hi All,
What do you think about a toroid made out of a fan shroud off of one of
those swiveling fans that we all pull out in the summer? It's certainly
got
the shape, but can anyone think of any structural or integral issues
besides
removing the white paint?
Thanks Everybody,
