I once hit a tomato with 10 kV, 10 kJ! It flew up 15 feet and splatted into the ceiling. I was amazed it didn't vaporize. Hitting a watermellon at 15 kJ is still on my "to do" list.

10kJ isn't even close to enough to vaporize a 100-200g tomato. It will barely even get it to boiling.

10 kJ does a nice job vaporizing a meter of thin copper wire, but there's not much mass there.
