Re: [TCML] Fried It !
Just as a point - you don't need to hit anything directly - unfortunately electrostatics will do the job just fine.
Prior to getting kicked out of the garage for confusing my opener ( I had it fully faraday caged in 1/8"
aluminum screen, sensors on quick disconnect, power cord and antenna would be pulled into the cage,
3inch wide ground strap from the chain guide to a true earth ground, - still got confused
needing a hard reset of the code system. She who will be obeyed decreed that I shall never more run inside. Ooops.).
I observed a few things that indicate a pretty substantial ion cloud that both charged up
external systems, and was persistent after the coil was off:
Item one: My rolling tool box, located approximately 8 ft from where I was running the coil would discharge
from the bottom corner to ground once every 5-6 seconds. Touching it right after running was not
recommended.
Item two: Walking across the garage with a 4 ft fluorescent would cause intermittent flashing of the tube
for up to 3 minutes after the coil was shut down.
Note that this was in southern california during winter santa-ana windstorm. Cold, and very dry (about 50F and 10% humidity or less)
Imagine a similar build up on your device that then discharges to ground.
