Any 3 phase motor can be used with a VFD. Some VFD's can be used on single  
phase lines to run 3 phase motor. I did an installation where they need 35hp  
motor to drive pump. Used a Allen Bradley VFD to do the job. Power company  
upset, but had to live with it. They wanted to be paid for running 3Phase  line.
