High-voltage show sparks the crowd
CHRISTIE TAYLOR / NEWS REPUBLIC
Greg Volk of Eagan, Minn. watches arcing sparks of more than
one million volts from the safety of a "Faraday cage." The current
ran through the outside of the cage, but objects inside were
untouched, and Volk said he couldn't feel a thing.
By Christie Taylor / News Republic
Sparks flew at the Sauk County fairgrounds on Saturday as families
and technology enthusiasts came together to watch high-voltage
gadgets in action and talk about the fine points of electrical
engineering.
The event, which drew an estimated crowd of 450, was a combination
of three previously separate events ? Tesla Fest, the Midwest
Inventor?s Faire, and the Midwest Ham Radio Swap fest ? which
coordinator D.C. Cox said all combined "people and ideas," and
therefore belonged together.
"It?s a blending of the arts," he said.
...much etc...
