RE: [TCML] Tube question, family of curves
Hi,
I have forgot much about biasing vacuum tubes but still have my college text
book on the subject. Usually, for our needs one would apply a bias voltage
such that it would put us in the middle of the curves so that the swing is
from saturation to cutoff since we don't care about a sine wave out.
Here is a link to the Svetlana specks and the family curve. Dan's site I
believe.

I have seen the complete RCA docs circa WWII scanned and posted on the
Internet somewhere. If anyone really wants a copy, I could bring up my older
computer where I stored a copy.

Subject: Re: [TCML] Tube question
Back in high school, some 40 years ago we were still being taught tube
theory and would plot our own curves on vacuum tubes, and then design a
circuit
around that. Just don't ask me how now because that was a looooong time
ago,
but it wasn't that hard using a variable voltage source and a couple of
meters.

FB OM! That's the way I remember it, when I worked in our high school
station (W2CLE) 50 years ago this week. But going back on my notes to
2000, I could not find a single reference to design parameters/theory
in
any of the VTTC threads. A lot of it seems to be cut and try or just
copy
with far less attention given to how and why than is given to a spark
gap.
