I'm not sure that even shorting the secondary will cause it to generate enough heat to be worthwhile.  It can never dissipate more than its faceplate rating of Watts, and the terminal (final) temperature of such a big thing generating a limited number of Watts is cool enough to touch.  I would think that placing it in a covered BBQ will get it hot many times faster.
