RE: [TCML] Beginner questions for first tesla
Hi Simon,
You question is a bit vague. Are you trying to "set" the spark gap opening.
Yes, this should be done without the cap bank. Traditionally, a variac is
cranked up to 140v (American) or 280v England and the safety gap is set so
it just barely fires at this voltage. The main gap is then set to rock and
roll at this voltage. Many charts are on the Inet for distance of a static
gap at a given voltage. Shape has a bearing such as flat faces verses ball
or knobs and sizes.
I hope that answers your question, otherwise, please be more specific so
the group can be most helpful.

Subject: [TCML] Beginner questions for first tesla
Hi all,
Just a quick one although I'm sure more questions will follow, should
my spark gap be firing without my MMC attached to the circuit?
If you need more information on my Tesla coil I can send it later
Thanks in advance for your help
Simon
