Re: real life applications

SSTC (DRSSTC as well as hard driven) CW TC's are used as power
drivers for VERY large metal cutting lasers.
I saw a 4 system recirculating CO2 IR laser system about 10 years ago
capable of 500W CW and pulse of well over
4kW being developed for cutting of 1" thick carbon steel plate. Very
impressive to see an UNFOCUSED beam the diameter of a dime break a
solid 4" cinder block in half from thermal shock at ~4kW pulse---at a
range of 10-15' from the beam aperature of the laser tube!!!
Imagine what you could do now with IGBT's versus FET's, 10 years
advancement from industry (and this list), and DRSSTC technology ;^D
