Hey Ben...

cheapest I found a metal halide ballast for was 57$, and as far as modifying not too good they do have a good hi volt pulse to start the bulb but thats about it. Once the bulb arcs the voltage drops to about 100VAC at 10-17 amps. keep looking for either Microwave oven transformers or neon sign transformers...

Hello all,
Does anyone know where I might be able to find metal halide ballasts (or complete fixtures) at a reasonable price? (15-30 bucks) I'm looking for something in the range of 75-250 watts 110/220v.

I'm interested to know if these can be modified for tesla coil use..
