Hi Chip,

Your PIG really doesn't know anything about 3 phase. The maximum you can put across the HV bushings is 7200V (ie from one of the Y phases to neutral). The utility company normally distributes the PIGs across the 3 phases to equalize the loads. It is common to see three PIGS on one pole, each connected to a different phase.

I always post then, go looking for the answer to the question I asked. I have done some reading and it seems that the wye config. applies to only (3) phase transformers. Wye is called wye because that is what the wiring diagram looks like....a "Y". I learned that in a wye config., you will get 1.732 (sq. rt. of 3) times the voltage across phases as you do from phase to ground/neutral. that is why the transformer I found says 12470Y/7200. 7200 * 1.732 = 12470 volts..Now..I have a question. Is it ok to use a (3) phase pig @ 12470 volts wye to run a tesla coil?.I don't see a problem...You just don't use one legs...I don't think you would even have to feed it (3) phase. If so, all you need is a (3) phase motor to manufacture the 3rd. leg. Any comments will be appreciated...Thanks...Chip Ford
