Hi Doc.
How about tack-welding a spiral of mild steel strapping onto a flat
metal plate.
You could wood blocks for spacing the ribbon.
Drill a hole at the starting point. Could be more then one.
Bend a 90 on the end of the tubing you are using.
Insert the end of the tubing into the start hole and secure.
Wrap the tubing into the metal spiral using blocks and clamps to hold.
Now take a torch and heat the tubing until blue, Let it cool.
This should anneal the copper making it hold the spiral when removed.
Just a thought.
