Hi Malcolm,
It has been shown in several references that the theoretical maximum
Inductance for a given length of wire (and hence for a given resistance)
occurs in a helical coil when h=0.9r, which, however, is not a practical
ratio for most coils. The 1:1 ratio would be consistent with having the
best XL/R in a "practical " dimension coil.
