Hi all,
Here is a wonderful picture of a leader ground strike and lots of smaller
streamers:

There is a nice lens shadow showing the main leader at vastly reduced
brightness to the left too.

I wonder why DC sparks between balls show ramifications in the negative
direction, while lightning produces them in the positive direction.
Maybe just a question of size, or of geometry of the terminals.
