  Nope, this is not a "what if"; I was actually on the show as one of the

  I doubt we'll ever see a Junkyard Wars Tesla Coil: the reason I was 
invited into the show was because they needed an electromagnetic weapons 
expert and even then they decided it wasn't feasible to make a competition 
out of that.
  HOWEVER, fear not, I have some inside scoop that TLC may be comming out 
with another JYW-like show that may well do things like Tesla Coils. I am 
not authorized to give any details but its something to look foward to in 
the near future :) I'll keep you all posted as soon as I can.
  I'll also be on the Daily Planet on Discovery Channel in a couple of 
months talking about electromagnetic accelerators and demonstrating my (now 
much improved:) Rail Gun on TV...
