I think they act to "decouple" the TC primary from any potential DC. Any
DC would be short circuit and be very unkind to the Silicone switches.
Please correct me if I am wrong!

Uh no.  They do not form a voltage doubler.
Perhaps you should read up on your SSTC theory as well.
