Hi All,
If you really want to loose faith in the US patent office, check out patent
6217604. Especially notice the date - April 17, 2001.

-----------
A method for the therapeutic treatment of diseased cells in a patient is
disclosed. An electromagnetic field is generated and the patient exposed to
the electromagnetic field. The electromagnetic field may be a pulsed
electromagnetic field and may be used for the treatment of a patient having
AIDS. The method may also comprise exposing the patient to an
electromagnetic field having frequencies in a visible spectrum in
combination with an electromagnetic field having frequencies not in the
visible spectrum, such as may be useful to treat a variety of conditions.

One will recognize the "apparatus" and the "tubes"...

"Each of the tubes 32 in the light emitting system 6 may contain one or
more of the following gases: hydrogen, helium, argon, neon, xenon, Krypton,
water vapor, oxygen, or nitrogen. Each of the listed gases emits
electromagnetic waves over a range of frequencies, including frequencies in
the visible portion of the electromagnetic spectrum, when the gas is
ionized by a substantial electric field. Of course, other gases may also be
used to provide electromagnetic waves of different frequencies. "
Interestingly the visible spectrum part "bio-electric light simulating
unit" sounds like the "spectrochrome"...

It has the distinction of being the first medical quack device ever
outlawed by the federal government in 1938...

All of the devices mentioned in this "new" patent were already patented 50
to 150 years ago... The "effectiveness" of the treatments was "determined"
50+ years ago and landed many of their inventors in prison... The only
"new" thing here is that it claims to cure AIDs. I supposed I should rush
to the patent office with "my" "newer" apparatus that can cure SARs ;-))
The patent office deserves a "slap" for this one...
Cheers,
Terry
