I'd suggest a blue handled Weller soldering iron of 35 watts or so. They are
like $30 or so from electronics shops, or can be ordered from Newark
Electronics. This is the "cheap" version that just plugs in the outlet. You
really don't need a temperature controlled one unless you've decided that
normal one just isn't flexible enough, or really need to control the heat
output.
You can replace the tips, select different ones, and they are (cheap
Weller)decent soldering irons. The genericy black soldering irons with the
tip held in with a screw are pretty awful, for any sort of work. They take
forever to heat up, the tip is large and stupid, wears out fast, and they
are too long to be comfortable to use.
