right. A PDT isn't something you just wire up into your house wiring. If
one doesn't take the time to properly plan out a wiring scheme and use the
proper equipment, then one doesn't have any business using a PDT in the
first place.
You mention the possibility of using a 120/240 step up transformer. And
then you mention later that you do have 240VAC available in your house. .
. You should have a dedicated circuit for your PDT. This isn't something
you just plug into the wall or GASP! a few wall outlets to get 240VAC.
If you only have 120VAC, then i would recommend just running the PDT with
120VAC and get only 7200V output (for a 14400 PDT). This would still be
plenty of current and voltage to make a spectacular coil.
As for still working on your "piggie" as you call it. I think you best plan
out your whole wiring scheme first and run your extra breaker etc... to
power this thing before even thinking about getting your pole transformer.
Remember, these "piggies" are extremely dangerous. You might as well take
the extra time and money to do this correctly than just haphazardly
connecting it to your wall-outlet
Dan
I was thinking for those times when one didnt not have a 240 linx they
might be able to use a 120 to 240v step-up transformer. a 2500w step-up
would be good as most 120 breakers are 15-20 amp and that would just about
max it out. however, i think even with that extra transformer you would
still need a ballast for a piggie yes?
other ideas. fish around for 2 outlets on different sides of the breaker
box to get 240v. ive heard of music DJs doing this for their amps and more
likely for their lighting systems.
however if you find 2 sockets that will give you 240v and each of those
circuits are on their own 20amp breaker, will that allow you to pull 40
amps? me thinks just 20.
Just some late night pondering. STILL working on getting my piggie. The
tristate area joints want too much money, and the faily priced places want
an arm to ship ;)
