         Once Upon A Time Argon filled lamps, with screw bases,
         like conventional light bulbs were available from,
         ferinstance Allied Electronics.  Dunno Why.
         Dunno if they still are...  Not expensive, tho not
         'long 'sign type' tubes'.

         Also, yes, many of the colors in 'discharge' signage
         are Hg vapour with suitably chosen fluorescent
         materials on tube walls.
