I had the same problem with my cup caps caps, and I was using oil too. I
don't think a double cup dielectric is quite enough, three would work better
but it would decrease the capacitance. What happened in your cap isthe high
voltage has punctured the cups, OR you have a bad connection to one of the
plates and it is arcing, preventing it from charging up and therefore
preventing the SG to fire. Just replace the cups that were damaged or redo
your connections. I built a total of 4 and they all failed one way or the
other. I now have a geek cap MMC and I am happier than ever :-). Just go
the MMC way.
