Re: MOTs in series

A 4 pack MOT power supply does NOT need any transformer modifications if you
run the middle MOT's grounded. Oil will be needed most likely to cool off
the transformer bank and provide protection against RF feedback. In effect
you create two seperate transformer curcuits which operate independantly at
4800 VAC or so. MOT cores are built to survive up to 6 kV before insulation
failer. Only past 6 kV do you need to do modifications.
An 8 pack power supply is very much possiable, but some MAJOR transformer
modications need to be made in order for it to work successfully....it takes
at least 8 hours to modify the secondaries/ add Varathane/ pull out filiment
windings on 4 transformers
(2 left, 2 right side) I would stick with 6 pack supply which is 100% fail
safe and only needs 2 modified transformers (1 left, 1 right side), but high
quality transformer oil must be used!
