It sounds as tho the primaries are not properly phased. They must be wound in
the same
direction. Also, Isis and Osiris were very cantankerous in the coupling
adjustment.
I used helical primaries and I found that a change in elevation of less than
2 inches
would go from intense racing sparks to nothing happens. The final adjustment
was very
sharp and not symmetrical. The twins were very difficult to tune and if it
were not for the patient help of several knowledgeable coilers I would still
be
working at it. I used the oscilloscope / sig gen method to tune each primary
separately.

BTW and FWIW: The helical coil gives a very tight k. I find it very easy to
wind a helix
of any size with copper tubing. I have never wound an Archimedes spiral but I
doubt if there is any performance difference between the two-forms.
