Re: primary and secondary distance

The space between the primary and secondary should be
just wide enough to preclude sparks passing between
the primary and secondary. My, wasn't that a helpful
answer!

I suppose it is one of those "guess things", but it
can be narrowed down quite a bit based on experience.
On both my 4" x 24" and 6" x 30" coils, I'm using
1.5". 1" separation proved inadequate on my 4" x 24"
coil, and I had to cut out the innermost turn.
Sleeving the innermost primary turn with plastic
tubing, or surrounding the bottom of the secondary
with high quality insulating plastic would allow a
smaller space, but I'd rather let airspace do the
job--just seems simpler.
