The cheapest way to build a poor mans iso trans is to get two step down
"control transformers" 1-1.5kva, and hook them back to back.
Use one in the 240v to 480v config wired to the second in the 480v to
240v, or 120 to 240 then back.
This gives a nice, although heavy isolation transformer. There are some
nice "solo" power transformers on ebay that if one is close to you, can
work very well. these are constant power, iso transformers made to power
sensitive back planes and such.
