Ted, Terry, all
I sent this several days ago, sometimes my mail does not make it out,
here it goes again......
Thanks to Ted & Terry for the tribute to the "Biggg Coil" of Newcastle
Oklahoma. This was a suprise to see as I was not expecting a movie of it
in operation. I even down loaded it at the blazing speed of 3.6 kbs.
The conditions that night it ran were not favorable for long strikes as
the wind was up. Notice the weeds blowing in the forground. The
streamers would start heading South into the wind, and work their way to
the North. The Biggg Coil "hanger" on the right is 16.5 feet high for
reference.
The Biggg Coil still runs frequently with several improvements since
last year. A beefier rotory gap and the ballast inductor was replaced
with a 7 stack 1256d variac for current control. Sparks are healthier
and further improvements will include raising the total height of the
coil about 3 feet to minimize ground strikes. The hanger will also be
raised 4 feet to accept the new height. Set up time is only 5 minutes.
A local TV station was here filming Friday night for a special on TV.
Dave Wightman was here also to handle any surprise problems, like if I
faint in front of the camera. He too is building a replica of the Biggg
Coil. Two Biggg Tesla Coils in Oklahoma?
If anyone is ever close to central Oklahoma, drop by and see the monster
run in real life.
