Getting it off the form is not a problem at all. about 10 coats of varnish
will do the job but of course it will take months to keep coating it that
way.  When its wound with 0.8mm wire you can't hardely bend it inwards its
that solid. The only problem really is protecting the ends of the winding
from getting damaged.
