beginners questions...

hey all,
    i was wondering if anyone has any plans for small tesla coils, say
secondary windings of no more than about 10in. currently my line transformer
gives out 1kv at 25ma, that's only from a 12v battery that is being chopped by
a relay oscilating at 50Hz (i'm in Australia if you think that 50Hz should be
60Hz).
    also, what is the deal with a rotary spark gap? like, what are the
advantages/disadvantages of it over a simple spark gap of two screws near each
other or something.
