Hello Mark

Moving from left to right on your picture, I will label the contact points
A, B, C, D, E, F, G. Note that D corresponds to the red dot. For 240 volt
input, I will list two connection schemes. One will give a voltage rise from
0 volt on output when you turn the wheel clockwise, and the other will give
a voltage rise from 0 volt on output when you turn the wheel
counterclockwise. The preferred connection is for a voltage rise on output
when turning the wheel clockwise. Experiment to see which connection does
the clockwise thing.

Connect 240 volt service leads to A and F. Take 0 to 280 volt output from A
and D.

Connect 240 volt service leads to B and G. Take 0 to 280 volt output from D
and G.

You can also use a 120 volt service line. One of the two connections below
will give the clockwise thing.

Connect 120 volt service leads to A and C. Take 0 to 280 volt output from A
and D

Connect 120 volt service leads to E and G. Take 0 to 280 volt output from D
and G.

The 120 volt connections will draw more current than the 240 volt
connections.
