Hello Chris,

Can't help you on the sweet spot, however, I'd like to mention that a friend
of mine had a similar problem with his motor. As soon as we attached the
rotor and electrodes the motor would throb as you has described. I believe
that this extra weight on the shaft is not allowing the motor to fully
"lock-in" to sync. You have a couple options:

1. Get a bigger motor with more hp.

2. Lighten the rotor by drilling holes in it. This makes it look like
Swiss cheese and reduces strength considerably though.

3. Use shorter electrodes or smaller diameter tungsten/brass whatever.

OR

4. What worked for us: We connected the 120 volt motor to a variac and
increased voltage to about 134 volts. It "locked-in" at this point. We
then backed the voltage off to around 110 and the motor did not change rpm.
It worked great!! To further test it, we reduced the voltage al the way
down to 72 volts before the motor fell out of sync. Your motor, I'm sure,
will vary but this may work for you and save the hassles of new motors,
Swiss cheese discs, and new electrodes.

Best of luck,

Trent Mullins

| G'day List,
|
| Could somebody please tell me a simple way to set a SRSG to its "sweet
spot"
| apart from repeated trial and error, rotating motor cradle etc.?
| Also, I have ground flats (4) on the rotor of the motor, but when I tested
it,
| it throbbed with a kind of beat frequency. The strange thing was that when
I
| lifted the motor and gave it a jerk, it ran smoothly - - - what's going on
| here?
|
| Thanx for any info
|
| Regards
|
| Chris
