There were some good articles on "globalizing" software in "Embedded Systems
Programming" magazine about 5-6 months ago.  A search should find it.  One
suggestion, which I thought was good, was to use something like excel to
keep a table of all these things.  You can set up the English text in a
column, with another column(s) telling where that text gets used, and then
add columns for the foreign languages.  Sometimes, a given English word has
two meanings, and maps into two different translations, depending on the
usage.

Excel has some useful functions to do things like figure out how long the
strings are (so you can quickly determine how long the control needs to be
on your VB form, etc.)  Sure, there's going to be some manual retyping, but
face it, language translation's not something readily done well by algorithm
anyway...
