I have made this type of variable cap with old LP records coated with Al foil 
to the hole. Plastic shaft, 6 records rotatable, 7 are stationary, air gap to 
the adjacent record is 2.5". Works great with no arcs up to 15KV. Will be 
using this big thing
when my T.C. is done. Tuning is easy, with one blank record bolted to the 
shaft with a hole in the rim, turned with a 3' long fiberglass rod.
Kicking up my heals and watching T.V. during Y2K.
