Re: Rotary GAP


 I have modified my motor for sync duty and used your little 'sync tester'
design to check that it was in fact 'in sync'. some observations:
 - the motor is a 1 hp 1450,(was, now is 1500), rpm unit keyed shaft, four
cut in by milling machine.

a) using your 'tester' I see that the 'key' is 'frozen' at two points 180 deg
apart, for example 12 and 6 oclock. if I repeatedly stop and start the motor it
'almost' always syncs back into the same 12 - 6 oclock positions BUTTT,
it 'syncs' at the 9 - 3 oclock position. why? There is no argument that the
is syncing, I tested the tester,( watching the watcher?), using my CRO and
it is
working exactly the same as your cro image.

The reason I may have a problem with this as the rotor disk is 10 pole - it
appear that perhaps I should have gone 12 pole to ensure the same operation for
'both' sync positions, i.e. 1 gap at 12 - 3 - 6 - 9 oclock positions.
