Lexan caps -Reply
Sebastian,
lexan---trade name for polycarbonate.... dielectric
constant around 3 good dielectric strength (15-20% less than hdpe) but,it's
dissipation factor is around.002 for comparison hdpe is .0003 and
good old rigid PVC is .009 to .017......also,polycarbonate is quite
hygroscopic and will absorb H2O from the air readily ....... advantages are
transparent,50 times the impact strength of acrylic, self extinguishing
good structual material.

Hi all,
I see a lot of Lexan used in the power supply industry used as a dielectric. Is
this stuff good to use in the construction of Tesla capacitors or is it too
lossy? Is this a plastic that is known by another name alltogether in the Tesla
circle?
Thanks,
Rocky
