Chip,

Sorry to hear about the demise of the caps, sounds like you put on
a great show anyway.  I guess the 20kV rating is just not enough.  I
like to run at least 35kV to 80kV ratings for a good safety margin. 
With a good voltage safety margin, the caps should withstand high 
break-rates.
