Malcolm,
Ok, I shortened the wire to approx 4.5 feet (including the primary) Turn 
it on, zip. The secondary does not even have a corona anymore. The odd 
thing is, the spark gap is really quiet now. I thought something was 
wrong untill I turned off the lights. It sparks fine but much quieter 
than before.
Wierd huh?
Any thoughts?.
